Following a Cadetship with P&O Steam Navigation Co Ltd serving on general cargo, LPG and passenger ships, Mike spent 5 years at sea with P&O Cruises Ltd rising to the rank of 3rd Engineer on some of their steam powered passenger vessels.
On receiving his Degree from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Mike worked for Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd initially in SMITE (Submarine Machinery Installation and Testing Establishment) involved in the testing and operation of prototype propulsion plants for nuclear submarines. Mike also worked in the Installation Planning Department and the Naval Architects Department, before leaving Vickers to Join Shipboard Informatics / TMC.
During his time at Shipboard Informatics, Mike has been involved in all areas of the development of commercial computer software for the shipping industry, from the initial contact with the shipowner, through to the design, programming, testing, installation, acceptance and training.
Mike regularly contributes to TMC investigations with computer modelling and analysis of casualties, including: container stowage collapses, ongoing salvage operations and investigations into previous salvage operations carried out by other parties.
