Laura joined TMC in 2024 and is a Naval Architect with over 20 years’ experience across different sectors and vessel types. Her experience spans the whole lifecycle; from leading new build tenders and construction contracts including future fuels development and decarbonisation, through to operations planning, in-service maintenance and decommissioning.
After starting her career with a Year in Industry in Submarine Hydrodynamics, she went on to study Naval Architecture at Newcastle University, graduating with an MEng in 2005.
She then worked in in-service support and ship repair for Fleet Support Limited in Portsmouth Naval Base, which later became part of BAE Systems. This gave a comprehensive grounding in naval architecture and involved a lot of time on board and, during docking periods underneath, different ships, from the historic HMS Victory to the Type 45 destroyers and Ro-Pax ferries. She was seconded to the Ministry of Defence for several months with the Major Warships Integrated Project Team. She was involved in around three hundred dockings and thirty inclining experiments, with ten as either incline officer or overseeing officer.
She moved to Sealion Shipping Limited in 2012 to get commercial new build experience and was project manager for three new builds in the Far East, managing large site teams and technically complex DP offshore construction and support vessels.
In 2018 she joined Shell as a Senior Naval Architect and lead the naval architecture scope on varied projects including new build inland waterway barges, FPSO decommissioning, LNG bunkering vessels and operations and hydrogen as a marine fuel.
