Richard is an experienced marine professional with 20 years sea-going experience on a variety of ship types including cruise, bulk carriers, Ro-Ro, general cargo, and reefer ships, with five years in command of cruise ships.

Since coming ashore in 2002, Richard has worked as a General Manger of a London based Marine Consultancy, Fleet Director for a Cruise Line, Inspector of Marine Accidents at the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch, and as a Safety and Quality Manager for a fleet of RoRo and bulk carriers.

Shore-based maritime experience includes:

Expert witness, investigations and report writing on general vessel operations, including collisions, groundings, and personal injuries.
Providing expert witness evidence in Court and at Arbitration.
Accident investigations and published government reports across the marine sector.
Cruise operations, executive management, and new build projects.
High value contract bidding and project delivery.
Preparation of QA / ISM documentation, manuals, and training programmes, and conducting ISO/ISM audits of ships and shore management.
Risk assessment of navigational operations.
Vessel experience across the cruise, commercial, fishing and leisure sectors.

Consultancy experience also includes analysis of the risks to the UK coast and the provision of emergency towing vessels around the UK’s coastline for the UK’s MCA.

Richard provides timely, accurate and verifiable expert advice and assistance on marine and technical enquiries from P&I Clubs, lawyers, shipowners & managers, and seafarers.

Richard joined TMC in October 2022.
