Roger spent 29 years at sea, serving on capesize bulk carriers, RORO’s, cellular container vessels, container and general cargo vessels, harbour and offshore tugs, AHTS operations in rig towing, supply and deep water anchor handling. He has been involved in marine salvage cases including the refloatation of casualties, emergency and planned casualty towing, casualty stabilisation and wreck removal. Several of these casualties were in environmentally or culturally significant areas such as Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and in New Zealand waters.
As the appointed distressed cargo specialist on the RENA wreck in New Zealand, he managing all aspects of salvaged and flotsam cargo including record keeping, surveying cargo, arranging salvage securities, sale of abandoned cargo, the logistics of transporting and disposing of CTL.
Roger’s involvement with the RENA continued as Owner’s and Insurer’s on site representative and marine consultant. This included the supervision wreck reduction operations above the water and chain cutting, breakdown, disposal and recycling of steel. The role included client supervision of safe diving operations to 50 metres, site survey, managing multi beam surveys of the wreck site, coordinating the scientific sampling programs and the monitoring of cargo and container debris removal.
Consultancy instructions have included studying the consequence, rectification and prevention of shipping channel blockages and business interruption for a major port as well as expert opinion on cargo damage claims. Assistance to shipowners has been provided to ensure trouble free Port State Control inspections in Australia and New Zealand.
Roger has worked throughout the world and combines international maritime industry experience with business, management and communication skills. Roger joined TMC (Marine Consultants) Ltd in 2012 as a surveyor in order to extend TMC’s sphere of influence and expertise into Australasia.
